Uma maneira legal de ter referências de artigos e materiais recentes relacionados a jogos é seguir blogs, e twitters de pessoas que trabalham na indústria.

Eu gosto de livros, mas salvo algumas exceções (como oReal Time Rendering), o material geralmente está desatualizado em mais de um ano.

Na área de CG, os livros mais recentes e que recomendo são: Real Time Rendering, GPU Gems, ShaderX e GPU Pro.
